An arrest is made. The suspect ticks some of the boxes, but detective ‘Chunky’ Mason isn’t sure they’ve got their man. As the investigation steps up a gear Mason begins to unearth an unpalatable truth.

In this, the second short-read murder mystery from J J Kennard, we follow the twists and turns of the Norfolk detectives as they tackle their latest investigation.

This is the second of the Short Read Murder Mysteries series. Each book centres on a particular character from the same police department of the 1970’s. While the tale is short it moves along at a steady pace and manages to convey the complete story. It isn’t easy to get in depth details into a short story but the author adds enough to hold the reader’s interest from the start and gives each character the right amount of detail that they are believable.

The narrator does a good job although I did have to fiddle with my equaliser settings to boost the treble to make the audio a little clearer, but that may have been due to the poor speakers in my work van.

I was given this review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.
